September 30 We don't need no education......'Outcomes' based education has been the policy here in Australia since about 1989.
Heard on TV current affairs programme last night an interesting question from more than one schoolteacher:-
" We did not not learn how to spell when we attended school - so how are we supposed to teach students
how to spell" - indeed!
September 20 School Speed Zones, Times and Speed Cameras in the N.T. Heard on the radio today ...a mini-bus driver was photographed speeding 5 times in different locations in 40km/hour school zones around Alice Springs. Once the speeding photos are processed Alice police said there were about 150 speeding motorists photographed during a 2 day 'blitz'. A motorcyclist was the fastest - recording a speed of over 80km/h. The points being, as someone from a motoring organisation already pointed out, speed cameras are nothing more than revenue - raisers. If a vehicle is seen to be exceeding the speed limit, it's the police duty to stop the driver forthwith for driving dangerously, not just to take it's picture and send out a ticket a month later. Had they done their duty properly the mini-van driver would probably not been seen speeding later that day. - Here in the N.T. the 40km/hr limit in school zones applies between 7.00AM and 5.00P.M. on open school days. Better if the speed limit were lower - say 25km/hr, during the periods when the majority of students are likely to be entering and exiting the schools.
